DESCRIPTION:Complete one 6.7km lap within an hour… \n\n\n\nRestart again on the hour… \n\n\n\nContinue… \n\n\n\nUntil only one person is left to complete a lap \n\n\n\nA Backyard Ultra is a type of ultramarathon where participants run laps of a set course of 6.706 metres (4.167 miles) and they must finish each loop in less than an hour. The race restarts each hour with all those that finished the previous lap on time. The race is over when only one runner remains to complete a lap. This runner is marked as the winner and only finisher\, with all other runners receiving a DNF (Did Not Finish). The strange distance is because the distance for 24 laps is equal to 100 miles.

There may be some sheep tracks but you’ll be following bright orange/red wide trail marking tape – there will be plenty so no reason to get lost. \n\n\n\nMost of the ‘gentler’ sections are following high country 4WD tracks\, these are still mostly quite technical to run and there could easily be snow across sections of them. \n\n\n\nMAKE SURE your shoes have good grip on them. DESCRIPTION:The Best Dam Backyard Ultra starting on 9 May 2026 is a last one standing event based at Otematata Wetlands in Canterbury. \n\n\n\nA Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run a 6.7km course in less than one hour\, every hour. If a runner does not finish a lap within the hour they DNF (Did Not Finish). The race finishes when one person completes one more lap than anyone else. \n\n\n\nThe course is on well marked trails with minimal elevation gain and scenic views of wetlands\, Lake Aviemore and mountains. It is the same as the day loop used by the NZ team in the 2024 World Team Championship.

DESCRIPTION:This run is limited to 600 participants on the day. This Ultra caters for the beginner through to the Elite Ultra Athlete looking to do their fastest time. The Trail is a Grade 2 Mountain Bike Ride and does give some good uphill climbs\, with the finish a good downhill to the seafront finish in Hokitika\, total elevation is around 720m for the 100km run. “This is based off competitors records of 2021”.4 Fantastic Runs on the West Coast Wilderness Trail\, the 100km and 54km can be done as a Team of 2 or Individual.
